The Richland Hills Public Works Water Division maintains 47 miles of city water mains and 3,061 water meters. Water Division employees are responsible for checking, testing, repairing and replacing water meters, reading water meters, turning water on and off for new and departing residents, as well as turning water off for non-payment. This division maintains 7 wells, 2 overhead storage tanks, chlorinators, and pump houses. Staff monitors all wells around the clock utilizing the city SCADA computerized monitoring system.

NOTIFYING RESIDENTS OF WATER SERVICE BEING OFF FOR REPAIRS:
City staff provides advance notifications whenever possible to inform residents when their water service will be off for repairs. Methods of notifications include posting on the city Website; CodeRed** auto calls; automatic E-Mail blasts**, and NextDoor** (** You must register for these services to receive notifications, registration is available on the city website). Unfortunately advance notice is not possible for emergency repairs such as water main breaks, collapsed sewer lines, etc. If an emergency repair occurs during regular business hours, staff will post the information as noted above so residents will be aware of the problem, for after hour emergencies the Police/Fire non-emergency dispatch is notified and residents can contact them at 817-281-1000 to inquire on the status of the emergency. Most emergency repairs take approx. 4-5 hours to complete depending on the extent of the damage.
METER BOXES SHOULD BE KEPT ACCESSIBLE AT ALL TIMES.
CITY CREWS MUST BE ABLE TO ACCESS THE WATER METER AT ALL TIMES, SHOULD AN EMERGENCY SITUATION ARISE AND A RESIDENTS WATER METER IS NOT EASILY ACCESSIBLE SEVERE WATER DAMAGE COULD RESULT WITHIN YOUR HOME.
RESIDENTS SHOULD MOW AND WEED TRIM AROUND BOXES,
REMOVE GRASS, DIRT AND OTHER DEBRIS FROM ON TOP
OF THE METER BOX, DO NOT BLOCK METER ACCESS WITH
VEHICLES, MOWERS, TRASH OR OTHER ITEMS.
