Fire Operations

Fire Operations is made up of 15 personnel divided into three shifts that work 48 hours on duty followed by 96 hours off duty. These response-ready personnel are cross-trained in fire suppression, rescue, emergency medical services, hazardous materials mitigation and community safety education.

Coverage

Richland Hills Fire Department responds to an average of 1,700 calls for service each year. Those calls for service are answered by 24/7 coverage of a fire engine and ambulance along with assistance from our neighboring communities of Fort Worth, Haltom City, Hurst and North Richland Hills. Special circumstances such as hazardous materials, bomb threats, technical rescue and mass casualty situations also call in the assistance of the Northeast Fire Department Association (NEFDA).

Other Responsibilities

In addition to emergency responses, Operations personnel participate in various community education and public relations events each month. Personnel are also required to complete hundreds of hours of fire and medical training each year to maintain their certifications and ensure they are ready and well-trained when you need them most!

Projects

Each year our Operations personnel also complete the following projects:

• Inspect, flush and pressure test every fire hydrant in the City
• Inspect every business for fire hazards and safety violations
• Inspect and test every piece of firefighting hose in the department
• Provide fire education classes at all schools within the City limits
• Provide periodic community CPR classes at The Link Event and Recreation Center
• Conduct a Citizen's Fire Academy class for residents
