It is with a heavy heart we share the news that Bill Agan, who served as the mayor of Richland Hills from 2012 to 2018, passed away on Monday, November 27. Mayor Agan's leadership had an impact on numerous Richland Hills projects, notably including securing funding for the Hike & Bike Trail, which opened in 2021.
Mayor Agan also spent much of his time serving on City boards, commissions and committees including the:
- Crime Control and Prevention District (2012 to 2018)
- Building Board of Appeals (2012 to 2018)
- Richland Hills Development Corporation (2012 to 2018 and 2018 to 2022)
- Charter Review Committee (2011 to 2012)
I am grateful to have served with Mayor Agan, Mayor Lopez said.
His steady leadership has left a legacy that can be seen in much of the City’s recent progress. Bill’s time as Mayor opened the window to a revival of development that continues today.
Prior to his time as mayor, Bill Agan served as a Richland Hills City Councilmember from 1986 to 1988, but his public service truly began in 1956 when he joined the US Army. He served through 1964 and toured France, Germany and Korea.
We are extremely grateful Mayor Agan chose Richland Hills as his home and that he spent much of his time giving back to his community through his public service. We would not be the Richland Hills we are today without the guidance of Mayor Agan. Please keep his family in your thoughts during this time.
Mayor Agan's life and legacy will be honored at the December 18 City Council Meeting, which begins at 7 pm.
